Direct and Indirect Speech We can say in two different ways what someone has said: -	Direct speech -	Indirect speech or Reported speech

      Notice:  1:The Verbs that were in the present tense in Direct speech become past tense in reported speech.

Ex: -I want to go to school.

He wanted to go school.

-I want to retire.

He wanted to retire.

2: Future in the past ( will / shall)

At first sight it may seem rather a contradiction to speak of putting shall/will, as you know, are used to form the future tense. But would /should is called future in the past.

I/ We shall==>I /we should

  he/she/ it/ you/they will

 ==>he/she/ it/ you/they would

Ex: “you will be able to run the business”.

He said that I should be able to run the business.

Notice:  if the examples are given:

1st person  changed  to 3rd person

2nd person  changed to1st person

EX: Channa said :  “ I want to go to school”

Channa said that he wanted to go to school.
